Gradients

The platforms at Torre were on a short level stretch; small respite for up trains having slogged up the 1 in 55 climb from Torquay before attacking the 1 in 73 towards Newton Abbot. I've never really paid much attention to gradients in model layout design, projects and schemes have always assumed a safe level plateau. However, the stiff gradients of the prototype, highlighted by level sidings meant that they would be unavoidable on Torre, bringing visual and operational interest to the model.

While these gradients continue to challenge the railway operators
