David Eveleigh

Towards the end of World War One there was a shortage of light brake vans. Consequently in 1919 various old 1882 type 10 ton vans with outside framed 18ft over headstocks wooden bodies (which did not have a diagram number) were reconstructed with GWR self-contained buffers, gedge hooks and eight shoe clasp brakes and weighted up to 12 tons. A few survived until 1951, others were converted to weighing machine vans for Messrs Pooley & Son, to tool vans for the signal department, or to tunnel inpecition vans.
