| The main spans were supported on each foreshore on massive granite piers, 29 feet wide by 17 feet thick, and 130 feet in height from the foundation level of the rails. Above that height, substantial portals of brick with courses of stone, all encased in cast iron formed the outer support for the above expansion bearings for each span. |
