Prototype Operation

Local instructions, dated August 1912.

'After being brought to a stand at the Home signal, a down goods train may be permitted to run into the up Loop line to perform station work, and Station Master must arrange for the train to be hand-signalled forward by a competent man, who must satisfy himself that the facing points are set for the line on which the train is required to run.

'When the station work is completed, the train must be shunted back outside the down Home signal in charge of the hand-signalman, who must satisfy himself that the trailing points are in proper position for the train to pass; the train afterwards being run forward over the down Loop line in the ordinary course.

'When it is necessary for a movement to be made from the west to the east end of the station on the down Loop line, the man in charge of the operation will be held responsible for seeing that the points over which the train or engine will pass are in proper position for the movement to be made.
