Steel Panel Travelling Post Office Vehicles
All pre-1946 TPOs were basically similar to the 1933-35 standard corridor stock but of 57ft, or less, length, 8ft 6in width and with flat body ends. The whole of the series were mounted on standard 7ft bogies.
Nos 806-8 were 57ft sorting vans with guard's compartment, recessed sliding doors both sides, delivery arms and a near-side net and were completed in 1929 for the Great Western TPO to diagram L18. The apparatus was removed about 1956. Replaced by BR standard stock in 1959, there were transferred to the Southern Region in 1960 and painted green. In common with other South Eastern Division locomtive-hauled stock, they were fitted with electric heating in 1961-2.
