BR 1/107 21 Ton Mineral Wagons

Introduction

1,500 21 ton welded mineral wagons to diagram 1/107 were built to an LMR order by Charles Roberts, Birmingham C&W and McLellan. The RCH 21ft 6in with 12ft wheelbase underframe was unfitted with long-link hand brakes. Unlike the 16 ton wagons being built at the same time they had no "London Trader" top doors. Some sources suggest this was because the designers were concerned about the rigidity of the long sides. However, David Larkin believes this was becase they may have had loco coal origins.
