Simply remove ~1mm from the 4 metal stalks on the chassis blocks, and also slide the lighting circuit board up out of the chassis - then file a small amount off the edges to allow it to slide down further into the chassis. Don't remove the two prongs on it that stick up, as they will support the shell. The advantage to doing this is that all the light guides will still line up exactly with the LEDs as the LEDs are moved down too. Mine now sits at the same height as the 57. I have another coming, so if anyone want's a picture guide of this in due course I'd be happy to do one.
I ended up taking off the bogie pickups and filing the base of the bogies to reduce the amount of play and looseness of the wheelsets, pressing up the tabs of the bogie so the frame was still held tight against the bogie moulding, thus preventing the wheelsets being so loose by holding them in their slots better. While in there I added some centre wheelset pickups:
